When Fiddleblack began, our direct mission was to investigate a certain kind of art and, namely, creative writing, that we coined “antipastoralism.” This was a concept that dealt strictly with a kind of inverse American pastoral. Where the contra-form dealt with expression through idylls, we sought the human condition in perverted landscapes.
