Our mission statement reveals our two core interests. Neither interest borrows directly from the other, but both straddle distinct literary and speculative fences. Respectively, antipastoralism and concept horror are Fiddleblack-born micro-genres and ideas that may be called other names elsewhere or branched differently into other buckets of literature, but here both are as we claim they’re defined.

Concept horror is a look at speculative work that considers self shed to its center, with the ability to involve more imaginative literary devices than usual. But it’s also something we’re trying to govern closely. Like we did with our more place-focused idea for antipastoralism, we’ve gone and created a diagram that might help explain this second love.
